The United States and Poland have voiced opposition to the pipeline planned to connect Russia with Germany, saying it politicises energy and destroys efforts to make Europe less dependent on Russian sources. This pipeline, known by name, Northern Stream 2 (Lord Stream 2) will bypass Poland, while Eastern European countries remain dependent on Russia.
Speaking in Warsaw, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said the “gas pipeline is not part of the infrastructure” for Europe's energy stability.
“As if Poland, the United States opposes the Northern Stream gas pipeline 2”, Tillerson said at the journalists' conference, along with Poland's Foreign Minister Jacques Czaputovac.
We see this as the destruction of overall energy security stability in Europe, giving Russia another tool to politicise energy”, Tillersson said.
This pipeline will be the second to send Russian gas directly to Germany and Western Europe through the Baltic Sea, not Ukraine and Poland. (REL)
