McCumbin Mehmet can ease sentence, legal battle of post-war killings begins

The prosecution announces the opinion that in time it has taken concrete action in terms of the S.M. convict's statements. The truth is, he's through the police claiming he wants to give information about a few murders. Immediately, the prosecution authorized the police to question him, now convict Shkumbin Mehmeti but the same police [...]
Immediately, the prosecution has authorized the police to question him, now convict Shkumbin Mehmeti, but the same police have conditioned the testimony, demanding that the prosecution, in advance, influence the break of the almighty act with which he has been sentenced to jail for 30 years. Since he has had contact with police investigators, through them, he has been informed that the prosecution cannot break the almighty act, but that if he is willing to testify, as the Prosecutor, under authorisations, we would support his request for extraordinary reduction of punishment if his testimony helped detect and prosecute the murders.
Later on 29,11.2016, the Special Prosecutor of the Republic of Kosovo has accepted a letter of his, allegedly wanting to meet with prosecutors to provide information about the murder. By 27.01.2017, the same has been brought, accompanied by police, to P SRK. It has been encouraged to give a witness about opportunities he knows. The same has stated that for some of these cases it has witnessed before EULEX prosecutors, and still has to testify before EULEX prosecutor, dated 31.01.2017. However, he has specified that he is co-operating with the PPC's EULEX prosecutor, alone and exclusively in connection with the case called Olympia”, regarding the murder of two UNMIK officers, as well as the attempted murder of two other officers, respectively in the case that occurred in Podujevo, on March 23rd 2004.
Prior to giving the testimony, the same one has sought assurances that the prosecution will turn it into a retrial, the case for which he was convicted with almighty justice, which condition, the prosecution has failed to promise because it is contrary to the provisions of the Kosovo Republic's Criminal Procedure Code.
Since the same had previously issued a statement before EULEX prosecutors and he had yet to issue a statement in 31.01.2017 for the so-called “Olympia”, his review was interrupted.
We clarify the public opinion that the prosecution has in time begun investigating the post-war killings. Likewise, EULEX international prosecutors are conducting investigations in this direction, until the transfer of these cases to local prosecutors.
