They help you quit smoking, they say.
But a new study by researchers at the University of California, San Diego, suggests that the opposite is true that e-gigrate actually makes it harder to quit, and not easier.
The study showed that smokers using e-gas were 49 percent less likely to reduce their use of cigarettes and 59 percent less likely to quit altogether.
“Based on the idea that smokers use e-gas to quit smoking, we speculated that smokers who used these products would be more successful in quitting”, says study author Dr. Wael Al-Delay, professor of epidemiology and UCSD Division chief at Global Public Health, in a press release.
But the research revealed otherwise. We need further studies to answer why they cannot quit smoking. One hypothesis is that smokers are getting an increase in nicotine doses using e-cigara. ”
Research has been conducted as part of a one - year study that conveyed the health and behavior of 1,000 smokers from California. The study also found that women and daily smokers were the two groups most likely to have tried electronic cigarettes.
Critics of e-gas are calling for stricter rules to stop the sale of minors and limit e-cigar trade.
The new research is published in “American Journal of Public Health”.
