Year of the election

The Central Election Commission worked hard in 2017. The central, local, runoff and revote elections in Istog were processes that were organised by the CEC within a six-month period. It was May 10th of the year that we are leaving behind where a motion initiated by the Initiative for Kosovo received 78 votes to bring down the PDK-LDK coalition. The motion, which was supported precisely by Kadri Wessel's party.
Under the pretext that major decisions are missing, the Democratic Party of Kosovo led the country to extraordinary parliamentary elections, which after President Thaci's decision would be held on 11 June, the news writes.net.
As they jointly voted the motion to oust the government, the three parties came together on the last day of deadline for presenting coalitions for participating in the election.
In the last minutes of the deadline, which was set by the CEC, the Democratic Party of Kosovo, the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo and the Initiative for Kosovo joined a coalition that was surprising to many.

It was the PDK that broke the “Red” of the Initiative and AAK, offering the latter the post of prime minister. “PAN” as this coalition was known would go to the polls with Kadri Veselin as a list bearer.
Coalition was also made by the LDK. Isa Mustafa's party joined Behgjet Pacolli's AKR with Avdullah Hoti as the candidate for prime minister.
It was Vetevendosje the only party that competed in the elections without any “marriage<x1 political>.
After a fair election process, without incident, it turned out that coalition PAN was to go first with 33.74% of the vote, leaving Vetevendosje Movement behind with 27.49%, the party, which marked major increases in contrast to the last elections.
And the LDK coalition with the AKR received 25.53%, failing to meet expectations.
The result was such that the coalition The PDK with the AAK and the Initiative could not form institutions, after they had managed to secure only 39 seats in Parliament. Along with minorities, the number of MPs was 59.
This led the country to an institutional blockade for about three months, where the Speaker of the Parliament could not be elected, nor could the government be voted.
It was September four of this year, where the blockade seemed to be heading toward the break. PAN had reached agreement with AKR. The latter were donated four ministries and the first deputy prime minister.

After the numbers were reached, PAN and AKR called the session on September 7th, where Kadri Wessel was re-elected to the head of the highest legislative body.
Two days later, on 9 September, the AAK leader, Ramush Haradinaj, also fulfilled the current dream. He was voted prime minister of Kosovo to receive his mandate from Isa Mustafa a few days later.
Local elections:
After the “returned” the government and the ministers were elected, the focus parties turned to local elections, which were scheduled to be held by October 22nd.
Following the campaign and month-long promises, on October 22nd Kosovo citizens addressed the ballot boxes for the second time.
In the first round, the Serbian List managed to win 9 municipalities, all in majority of the Serb population. Kosovo's Demoractic League in the first round triumphed in five municipalities, AAK in two, while The PDK won without a run-off only Drenas.
And in most cities, the runoff would be crucial to understanding the new chairman.
The runoff was a drama especially in big cities like Pristina and Prizren. In these two towns with a small number of votes, the Vetevendosje candidates, Shpend Ahmeti, respectively.

The VV alone in these two cities also ruled in Kamenica with Central Kastrat.
The Democratic League of Kosovo managed to secure victory in Gjilan, Podujevo, Vushtrri, while without a run-off it had won in Lipjan, Fushe Kosovo, Year and Pec. For Istog, however, it was decided to revote, following conditional and postal vote manipulations.
Surprise of these local elections turned out to be Ramush Haradinaj's AAK. Apart from the Decani Yunik, who won the first round, the prime minister's party won victory in Obilic, Suhareka, Gjakova, Kline and Rahovec.
And the Democratic Party of Kosovo, despite its going to the runoff leading several major cities, was defeated on 19 November in Prizren, Mitrovica and Rahovec.
The PDK returned governance to Ferizaj, and managed to lead with Kacanik, Shmen, and Drenas, who triumphed without a run-off.
The initiative for Kosovo had no change, continuing to lead with Malisheva.
The most dramatic race took place in Istog, where even the runoff did not determine the winner. This was after PZAP and the Supreme Court decided that there would be revotes in this municipality under the argument that conditional and mail votes were manipulated.
And in the winning revote, Haki Rugova of the LDK emerged in a 14-vote margin.
The year 2017 could be called an election year, it is also ending up as such.
Despite the Haradinaj government being slightly more than 100 days in power, opposition parties are warning motions and new elections in the coming year.
