President Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin met in Ankara on September 28th to discuss regional developments and bilateral relations at their fifth meeting in this year, Periscope broadcast “Hurriyet Daily Nea”
“We have discussed developments in our region, including Iraq and Syria. We are of the same opinion about the need for protecting Iraq's and Syria's territorial integrity”, Erdogan told reporters after a three-hour meeting with Putin.
Reiterating Turkey's opposition to the KRG's bid to seek independence through the controversial 25 September referendum, Erdogan called on the international community that “take steps to avoid serious mistakes to be made by the KR in the post-communation period”.
Putin, for his part, reiterated a statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry for the referendum, underlining that the Russian government is reflecting in principle about the KRGCE referendum without specifying the issue.
The two leaders have also discussed their joint efforts to create de-pronged areas within Syria, including Idlib, held by rebellion.
“We have agreed to work together in implementing de-progressed areas”, Putin stressed, informing that diplomats, intelligence officials and the military of the three countries will continue to work on that goal.
Erdogan also underlined the need to intensify works for implementation of the agreement that was reached in Astana in September, but also reminded of the need for the deployment of certain confidence-building measures.
“Turkey and Russia have reiterated their common will for the political solution to the Syrian problem,” he told.
Both Putin and Erdogan have expressed their satisfaction with increasing the volume of bilateral trade in 2017, informing them of an increase of 22 per cent in just 8 months this year.
The “Num of Russian tourists visiting Turkey rose 11 times compared to last year”, Putin said. “We have removed almost all trade restrictions on Turkish agricultural products. There is a 58 per cent increase in import of Turkish agricultural products”, he informed./Periscopi/
