A politician in Canada became a viral online with his calm response to an anti-mysliman confrontation during an electoral meeting.
Jagmeet Singh, 38, the candidate for the leader of the New Democratic Party of May (NDP), was speaking at one of his meetings in Brampton in Ontario, when accompanied by local resident Jennifer Bush.
The woman claimed Singh, who practices the Indian religion of Sikhism, was a lawyer for the Sheriat Law, Islamic law.
We know you're in bed with Sherriat”, Bush said, cutting off Singh when he got the microphone. “We know you're in bed with the Muslim Brotherhood”, She added.
Ignoring Bush, Singh addressed the crowd, saying: “We believe in love and courage... We do not want to fear hatred. We don't want hate to destroy such a positive event... so let's show people how we can treat someone with love. We welcome you, we love you, we support you”, he said.
The incident, which was picked up by the Brampton Focus news media and posted on his Facebook page, ended when the woman was attacked after Singh's supporters began cheering “love and courage”.
In a statement after the event, Singh said he chose not to answer Bush's questions because he “did not accept the premise”.
Many people have commented that I could only say that I am not a Muslim. In fact, many of them have explained that I am actually Six”He said.
While I'm proud of who I am, I've deliberately not gone down that road because it suggests that their hatred would be normal if I was Muslim”, He added.
