British ambassador addresses Kosovo judiciary: Allowed Criminals to Run in October 22nd Elections

U.K. Ambassador to Kosovo Ruairí O'Connell has called the Supreme Court's decision to return to the race of people to whom the CEC had given <x0 red lines” in the October 22nd elections. The British diplomat has even called all these candidates who were in court. [...]

The British diplomat has even called all these candidates who were in court.

“The CEC has made a good decision on first decetification, and the Supreme Court has granted the right to criminals to the candidu. It has been a little surprising because the law has been clear that if anyone is convicted for certain crimes it is not allowed to run for elections”, he said in a conversation with citizens.

Furthermore, O'Connell says citizens have the final word, they can choose, they can decide. If they want to clean Kosovo's public life out of criminals, they should not vote for criminals”, he says.

In the end, Britain's diplomat stresses that in his country it would be a major scandal if a party includes a criminal on the election list. “If this party also continues to keep it on the candidate list, it is not only the candidate that will be punished, but the whole party would suffer from this decision”, he wrote.

Otherwise, there was the U.S. Embassy, which has called the Supreme decision to regret. We understand the CEC's decision to return the 89 disqualified candidates in response to the Court's decision. However, we regret that the outcome of this decision did the excellent work of the CEC and the Electoral Panel for Anxiety and Parashtre (PZAP) to implement the initial ban on the Election Law on not allowing the candidacy of candidates convicted of criminal work”, the American Embassy's letter says.

We continue to support that spirit and purpose of the Law for Choice. We invite relevant state institutions to correct any legal uncertainty regarding this provision prior to the upcoming election cycle in Kosovo. We believe voters are looking for untainted crime candidates”, it further says. /Indesksonline/
