Nica Mayor Seeks Security Growth

The mayor of the town of Nice in France, the town which last year experienced a terrorist truck attack, has said that next month, it will gather European counterparts to discuss how they can improve security, following the terrorist attack in Barcelona.

Eighty-six people were killed by a truck attack in the city of Nice last year, and since then some European cities have experienced similar attacks.

I am convinced that life will triumph over death and that we will triumph over barbarism and terror”, Christian Estos told reporters as he honoured the victims of the Barcelona attacks.

It is clear that both the mayors of Berlin, London, Paris, Nice, Barcelona, Stockholm - are the first to face this violence and they manage these public areas... but we are not the ones to participate in major national and European reforms”, he said.

Estos has said he has made a decision to spend 30m euros on the Communist budget, to protect areas that could potentially be targeted for car attacks in Nice. He has added that the city he leads needs more money to cope with new threats.

As for meeting with European city mayors, Estros has said this meeting will take place on September 28th-29th in Nice, where EU representatives, responsible for security issues, are expected to participate.

The new ways the European security situation and legislation can improve are expected to be discussed at this meeting.
