Government '%Zaev) signs big decision for Albanians in Macedonia

The Macedonian government at Friday's session has approved the project to use languages. So the bill in question was part of the agreement between government coalition partners received green light and as such would be sent to the Assembly for further procedures.

(1) Throughout the territory of the Republic of Macedonia and in international official relations, there is the Macedonian language and its Cyrillic writing.

(2) The other language spoken by at least 20 percent of citizens (Albanian languages) is also the official language and alphabet, in accordance with this law.

(3) In all central government bodies in the Republic of Macedonia, state institutions, public enterprises, directors, commissions, legal persons who carry out public authorisations in accordance with law and other institutions, official language in Macedonian language and writing is also the language spoken by 20 percent of the citizens of the Republic of Macedonia, in a way defined by this law.

However, under the Law in question, Albanian is not used in the banknotes, but only the symbols of worship where Albanian ones will reflect as far as uniforms are concerned, will be in Albanian where 20% Albanians are, but not in all military uniforms.

The law, in all likelihood, will also go to the Venice Commission that ruling coalition partners are to split whether the Law as a whole will go to the Commission, or only part of it. Unofficially, the talks were focused on bank notes and uniforms in two languages, even though prior to the formation of the New Government, coalition partners had given up.
