The launch took place yesterday at 10:58 using a”Vega” designed for small and medium cargo.
One of the satellites aims to observe vegetation in more than 100 countries throughout the earth for a period of two and a half years for the French space agency CNES.
“The EVenus' satellite will photograph the countries with a high resolution every two days, enabling scientists to follow the development and state of vegetation”, according to the CNES, follow the atrs.
CNES head Jean-Yves Le Gall said the new satellite would be the key to understanding how vegetation is responding to climate change.
“Venus will play a very important role because in addition to direct data on temperature, greenhouse gas emissions and rising ocean level, we will be able to get to know even the indirect effects of plant development”, he told the newspaper “Le Figaro”
Satellite observations will also help develop warning systems related to agricultural and drought problems.
The” Venus” satellite is a joint project with the Israeli Space Agency.
The <x0-> Vega” rocket will launch a high-resolution optical satellite, becoming part of a military land surveillance programme for the Italian Ministry of Defence.
