Researchers have estimated the results of about 200 studies, which say that the number of sperm in males from North America, Australia and New Zealand has been halved for less than 40 years.
Some experts have expressed scepticism about the results of the “Resurresive Human Reproduction”.
But leading scholar Dr. The Levine Hague said it was “sufficiently concerned” about what is expected to happen in the future.
The researchers' assessment, in one of the largest ever undertaken, inspects the results of 185 studies that were conducted between 1973 and 2011.
Epidemiologist Dr. Levine, told the BBC that if this trend continues to increase in the loss of male sperm, then mankind is threatened with extinction, “reported. BBC”, report Periscope.
If we don't change the way we're living, the environment and climate we're exposed to, I'm very worried about what's going to happen in the future”, Levin said.
Dr. Levine, from “Hebrew University of Jerusalem”, found a 52.4% drop in sperm concentration and a 59.3% drop in the total of male sperm coming from North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
Past studies have shown similar declines in the number of sperm in developed economies, but skeptics say much of these studies have been flawed in methodology.
Smoking and obesity are some of the central causes of reducing sperm.
There is no clear evidence of the reason for the apparent decrease in sperm. But it has been linked to exposure to chemicals used in pesticides and plastics, obesity, smoking, stress, diet, and even numerous TV watches.
Dr Levine says there is an urgent need to find out why sperm numbers are being reduced and to find ways to reverse this event./Periscopi/
