Not long ago Donald Trump called Paris a terrible place, but now he seems determined to strengthen relations between the United States and France.
The number one of the White House arrived in the French capital on Thursday, at the invitation of counterpart Emmanuel Macron, to participate in celebrations on Bastija Day.
This time, the atmosphere between the two leaders was more relaxed, with Trump touching the head of Elisha's shoulder in a friendly manner, unlike the first encounter between them, when nervousness during the handshake was evident.
The American president was greeted with military honours at the historic military complex “Les Invalides”, where Macro also showed Napoleon's grave.
Later, the two presidents moved to the presidential palace, where they held an hour-long meeting with the focus of security and defence issues. Shortly before the start of the talks, Macron said it is natural and necessary to have exchanges with Trump, whose political motto “The first American” has disturbed some important European allies.
During his two-day stay in the French capital, Trump and his wife Melanie will dine with the French presidential couple at the famous restaurant on top of the tower “Eiffel”. A walk along the Senna River is also planned.
The Paris visit takes place amid the US political storm over the role Russia has played in American elections. During the planned evening conference, Washington's first one will find it impossible to escape questions on the issue.
