The leaders of the Third Trier, former German state, have allegedly thrown Adolf Hitler's treasury chest into the depths of Lake Toplitz in Austria during the last days of World War II.
At least seven people have died trying to find the treasure buried in the mud, 103 meters below the surface, reports the “Daily Star”.
Hitler and his allies confiscated works of art and treasures from all over the continent, gathering them in the so - called Third Reich.
They also stole rings, ornaments and other valuables from people convicted in concentration camps, writes the eye.net. But most of what had been stolen has never been found, and it is believed that many can be found at Lake Toplitz.
A number of Nazi vehicles and items have been extracted from the depths, but treasurers believe there may be much more than is expected to be discovered.
Hitler is claimed to have some $35 billion worth of treasure hidden in Europe, and the Austrian lake is the first country to host a host of hunters.
