Fatal Accidents Increase

According to official statistics, the total number of accidents has marked a decline compared to last year.

Kosovo Police Information Officer Daut Hoxha has said that in the January-June 2017 period, there were a total of 8,073 accidents and, compared to last year, there were 212 cases.

Regarding the large number of accidents taking place on road traffic issues expert Muhamed Krasniqi has said the main contributors affecting the large number of accidents are rising temperatures in the summer season, using the telephone during driving, not respecting traffic signs and legal provisions.

According to the street expert at the summer season in addition to high temperatures, traffic is getting even heavier by the large number of vehicles of fellow countrymen as well as columns that are being caused by various weddings and parties.

Muhamed Krasniqi said that as a precautionary measure for greater traffic security, he sees the increase of police measures on the road during July and August, especially during evening hours.

Otherwise, Krasniqi has recommended all drivers to respect road signals and not neglect any circumstances on the road because disrespect risks traffic safety in both vehicles and pedestrians.

According to the Kosovo Police, the largest number of accidents have been marked in the Pristina municipality due to the large development of major activities and concentrations of institutions. Police have appealed to all drivers, especially agricultural leaders, to have the necessary light signal during the night, as a large number of traffic accidents are being caused by an uncertain vehicle flow.

Between 2015 and July 2017, a total of 293 people have lost their lives in Kosovo's road accidents, while a total of 8,109,313 accidents have been recorded in Kosovo.
