An air strike by the United States has killed 16 members of Afghanistan's national police in Helmand province, officials have said today.
The Pentagon confirmed last night that a number of Afghan security forces were accidentally killed by the US air strike in Helmand province.
Currently, Afghan forces are waging fierce battles to regain territory in the largely controlled Helmand province of Taliban extremists.
Ahmad Faisal Bigzad, governor of the other Afghan province, Badkshan, has announced today that 11 police officers have been killed and 6 others have been injured during fighting with the Taliban. According to him, 20 other local police members in the remote Tagab region are considered extinct after yesterday's fighting.
