The president of the International Court of Justice in The Hague, Hisashi Ovada, said the court considers international law contains no ban on declarations of independence.
The court considers that the general international right does not contain applicable stops for declarations of independence.
Consequently, it concludes that the February 17th 2008 Declaration of Independence does not violate general international law”, Owada had declared.
Owada stressed that Resolution 1244 also does not prohibit Kosovo's declaration of independence.
The International Court of Justice's statement was issued following a complaint Serbia had sent to this justice body against Kosovo's declaration of independence.
