An appeals court in the Netherlands has confirmed that the Netherlands is partly responsible for the death of more than 300 Muslims in Srebrenica, from whom it was required to leave a Dutch base under the United Nations.

The Appeals Court's decision at The Hague confirms the 2014 decision, on which Dutch peacekeepers have known that those who had sought refuge within their base in the village of Potocari would be killed by Bosnian Serb forces, which has even happened.

The decision is seen as remarkable because the United Nations enjoys immunity from legal persecution. However, the case of the Dutch peacekeepers is special because it refers to the responsibility of a participating state in a peacekeeping mission within the United Nations.
