The incident occurred on April 15, 1989, at Sheffield's Schelsborough Stadium. During the FACip semi-final match between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest, a strong human desire resulted in the death of 96 people and the injury of 766 others.
All the blame for this tragedy goes to police who allowed many fans to enter, with what happened even the tragedy considered one of the biggest disasters in football.
Liverpool fans stayed at Leppings Lane. Access to that section was only possible through a small section, which was not respected.
According to this, stadium supervisor David Duckenfield, senior police officer and match-in-chief, ordered the opening of a new gate.
The gate opened, the stadium filled more than needed.
In previous years the gate was closed and guarded by the police. In this case, however, the gate was without police. The great flux to watch the match brought tragedy.
So after 28 years of waiting for the actors of this tragedy, the moment of punishment came. According to the English media, six people have been sentenced for allowing so many fans to join the stadium, including David Duckenfield (high Officer at the time) and Sir Norman Bettison.
