Irish media report that Liverpool has taken a major step in following after them for Van Dijk and has finally been given a green light to negotiate a deal for the player.
They are close to accepting a structured but highly valuable agreement, especially for a protector.
According to the medium Irish Independent, Liverpool is expected to close the 70 million-pound deal with Southampton for Van Dijk.

The deal would make the club's absolute record signing the 26-year-old Dutch club by Anfield.
This was after Van Dijk was going to spend 36 million pounds paid for Mohammed Salan last summer and 48 million pounds set to go to Naby Keita in the summer of 2018.
Van Dijk was left out of Southampton's team in the 1-1 draw to Huddersfield, the second match he lost.
