Kosovo President Hashim Thaci has said that in the near future the association of Serb majority municipalities in Kosovo will be formed and the Kosovo Armed Forces established, while continuing dialogue on normalising relations with Serbia. He has, in this case, thanked Prime Minister Haradinaj for sending the demarcation to the Kosovo Assembly.
He made these comments on the occasion of marking the 100th anniversary of Finland's declaration of independence, organised by the Finnish Embassy in Kosovo.
Kosovo President Hashim Thaci has said that Kosovo and Finland have many similarities, and have a common person, Martti Ahtisaari, who contributed to Kosovo's release from the risk of occupation.
Furthermore, the chief of state said Kosovo has no time to lose and that the demarcation agreement with the border with Montenegro should also be ratified.
Kosovo has no time to lose by always being grateful for Finland, which has been from the states that it has recognised Kosovo. Therefore, we must end our isolation and agreement on ratification of demarcation with Montenegro to switch from the Government to proceed to the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo. Thank Haradinaj for responsibility”, he said.
Moreover, the chief of state has also warned of the formation of association of Serb municipalities and the Kosovo Army.
“We will form in the near future even the association of Serb majority municipalities in Kosovo to testify that we are a reliable state and people, we will establish Kosovo's armed forces to make our modest contribution to preserving peace worldwide, we will continue dialogue on normalising relations with Serbia and reconciliation, and the sooner we reach the peace agreement as a condition for the membership of two respective states in Euro-Atlantic structures”, President Thaci has said.
While Finland's ambassador to Kosovo, Anne Huhtamäki, has said that Kosovo's independence is a big achievement and is a fantastic thing for Kosovo to have the opportunity to build the new state and that Finland supports its European perspective.
“Finland has paid a large price in fighting for its independence. Today we want to express gratitude to the past generations, all citizens who have worked and joined forces for the independence of Finland”, the Finnish diplomat has said.
The Finnish diplomat added that Kosovo Albanians recognise Finland the most by former US counterpart Martti Ahtisaari and his plan, which paved the way for Kosovo's state creation.
“is ten thousand Kosovars living in Finland and celebrating with us this anniversary”, Finland's ambassador to Kosovo, Anne Huhtamäki, has said.
By contrast, Finland has declared its independence from Russia in December 1917.
