The three-month-old child, known only by his first name, lost his left eye and suffered injuries to his skull as a result of military attacks on the outskirts of East Damascus.
A portrait of Cirian Karim by Faras Jasem, which describes a rose covering the child's wounds, helped gather social media consciences for his son's plight, while some describing him as a symbol of the suffering children in Syria who have suffered since the civil war that began in 2011.

Activists started a number of hashags in solidarity with Karym, including # Soridary WithKarim and #StandWithKam.
Twitter users posted pictures of them with one hand covering part of their eyes, reports “Al Jazeera”, Periscopi broadcast.
Those attending were Bana al-Abed, a Syrian refugee who rose internationally for her assets and video blogs from the city of Aleppos during the fighting between rebels and government troops there in 2016.
Others included British permanent representative to UN Matthew Rycroft, who presented a photo published by the British Foreign Office covering one eye.
