A new wave of protests against American President Donald Trump's decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel erupted Sunday in parts of the Muslim and Arab world.
Lebanese security forces in front of the US Embassy in Beirut used water pumps and tear gas Sunday to disperse Lebanese and Palestinian protesters who were demonstrating against the decision.
Protesters in Beirut threw shells at the embassy and burned an image of President Trump, as well as American and Israeli flags.
Thousands of Palestinian refugees live in Lebanon.
In Indonesia, the world's largest Muslim population, thousands of protesters took to a demonstration Sunday in front of the American Embassy in the capital, Jakarta.
Police in the town of Gothenburg in Sweden have arrested three people on charges that they had hit with bottles of fuel to a synagogue.
Officials in Stockholm say security measures are tightened around a synagoge.
But on Sunday, the Arab League said US President Donald Trump's decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital was “a dangerous development that puts the United States in a unilateral position in favour of the occupation and violation of international laws and resolutions” and that it takes away the role of “supporters and mediator” of the Middle East peace process.
