The renowned psychologist Dan Ariely, who is completing his new book on human motivation, has performed an experiment at Israel's Intel factory, where productivity can simply be measured by the amount of produced chips to better understand human motivation.
The experiment was attended by four groups of respondents. The first group at the beginning of the week received a message promising that if they filled their daily quotas, they would receive pizza at the end of the week. The second group of respondents to meet the daily quotas was promised a cash reward, about 20 pounds, the third group was promised written thanks from the boss, while the fourth group (control group) did not receive any messages.
At the end of the first day, the most powerful motivation was pizza production of the pizza group grew by 6.7 percent compared with the control group.
The group that was to receive written commendation was ranked second with a growth in productivity of 6.6 percent until the group promised money increased productivity by 4.9 percent. But this group at the end of the week was even 13.2 percent less productive, the Kosovo Press broadcast.
At the end of the experiment, it was concluded that the group promised written commendation by the chief was the most productive group, until the pizza group was introduced to second place.
