Katz confirmed to the Israeli daily that he extended the invitation to Mohammed bin Salman on Wednesday in the interview for electronic independent news website “Elaf”.
Katz, in the interview, described Saudi Arabia as “leader of the Arab world” and recommended that peace negotiations between Palestinians and Israel take place under the rule of the kingdom.
Israeli-Palestinian talks have been halted, but US President Donald Trump pledged to revive talks, with the US acting as mediator in the process.
King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia has reiterated the stated policy of the Saudi kingdom for a Palestinian state with the eastern Jeruzlam as its capital, reports “Al Jazeera”, Periscopi broadcast.
This was the official position of the kingdom on Trump's decision. The US action triggered a wave of protest from the Arab world and Islam.
Last month, Israeli Communications Minister Ayoub Kara invited Arabia's Grand Mufti Abdul Aziz al-Sheik to visit Israel.
Although Saudi Arabia does not officially maintain diplomatic ties with Israel, recent developments seem to have pushed Riyadin and Tel Aviv closer.
Analysts have said that secret ties between the two countries are based on Iran's “common threat” and are part of a new regional dynamic.
Katz added that Israel possesses information proving Iran is helping Hezbollah develop weapons in Lebanon.
Katz also spoke of a railway proposal that would link the Israeli port of Haifa in the Arab Gulf./Periscopi/
