Already 17 years later, the public was announced by former FR Yugoslavia Economy Minister Rade Filipovic, where he supported stories of the unusual sympathies Russia's president has directed towards the Serbian country.
Before the NATO bombings, Milosevic asked me to go to Moscow and ask the Russians to supply us with gas so that people would not rise from the cold, Filipovic said.
Gas was also needed for the functioning of the entire country, even the Army. As Filipovic said, for three days he patiently received Victor Chernomyrdin, founder of “Gazpromit” and one of Russia's most powerful men, a close associate of President Boris Jelcin.
I went to the Kremlin office where Victor Chernomyrdin and Vladimir Putin were sitting. Victor was very angry with us, because we owe $22m for gas”, says Filipovic, reports “Venestinet”, Periscopi broadcast.
The then Foreign Minister of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, Zivadin Jovanovic, said that “Jelcin supported American positions, as well as Chernomyrdin, who were putting a lot of pressure on Milosevic under American orders at the time of”.
“On the other hand, Putin and a number of other people in the then-military army have defended solidarity with the Serbian people, not only in words, but also with work”, he noted.
Gaddafi sent us a 59,000-ton oil ship.
After securing gas from Russia, Serbia also received the necessary oil, which came from Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.
With Gaddafi, negotiations went much easier. He provided us with a 59,000 tonnes of oil.
I remember saying several times: “what should I do with you Serbs, I am one of the Muslim leaders and you are fighting against my people, but I love Serbs”, former Minister Filipovic said yesterday, adding that half of that oil was destroyed by the bombing.
Who's Rade Filipovitch?
Rade Filipovic was Economy Minister at the Government of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, and then he was Serbia's ambassador to Ukraine and Moldova.
He did not wait for his mandate to end, because he was replaced by Svetozar Marovovic, then chairman of the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro.
Today he is not a politician, he lives in Montenegro and writes about political developments in the 1990s./Periscopi/
