Former U.S. marbles, author of several military exercise books, explains why it's healthy for us to end the shower in cold water.
Cold water will wake you up, no doubt, and keep you awake, but there are more health benefits than anything else. In training American naval forces, you spend a lot of time in cold water and there is a scientific fact about madness getting us into cold water. One, the reason professional athletes do this all the time after training, is that recovery increases. It vaccinates the entire body, stripped of lactic acid, so that you feel good about going the next day and ready for the next few days' training”, says Clinton Emerson.
He feels that cold water is therapy, though it seems torture. “It's a therapy to keep you healthy, keep your swelling low and let you keep moving forward, hopefully without any further damage”, he explains.
