The Council of Supreme Judges has sent 28 people charged with cases of fake matches of the Greek football championship to the tribunal's dock, Top Channel reports.
Among them, on charges of changing the outcome of football matches, is Evangelos Marinakis, president of Greece's largest club, the Olympian Piraeus, while 3 other accusations of the same action have been dropped, as well as charges of participation in criminal organisation, simply being changed to the formation of a gang playing matches.
To businessman Marinakis, the owner of commercial ships and one of the richest people in Greece will continue to have the restrictive conditions the Prosecution has imposed for him, such as the ban on moving abroad, 200 thousand euros in guarantees, presentations in the nearest police region, as well as the ban on any participation involving the country's football activities.
The crime of changing match results is accused of 28 people in question, among whom there are senior officials of the Greek Football Federation (EPO), referees, trainers and former footballers from Levadiako clubs, Panionios, Verias or Atromitos of Athens.
The Council of Supreme Judges' decision to start the trial has been handed down 14 months after the prosecutor's indictment of the case, as there have been dozens of appeals from accused persons.
