She was elected to this position by 290 votes in the November 15th vote.
The European Parliament's media report reportedly during its career as MP for more than a decade (2004-2014 and since September 2017), Lívia Járóka has been actively engaged in advancing Roma rights and gender equality issues, Koha.net broadcasts.
“It has been one of the main figures in the achievements of European policies related to Roma, such as the European Frame of National Roma Integration Strategy. Her work has been accepted and praised by several awards, which she has won as a member of the European Parliament during (2006 and 2013) in the category of Justice and Foundation Rights”, the report said.
Járóka, for her individual achievement in such an important position, is seen as a symbol of hope for those who work in Roma affairs, particularly for millions of Roma in Europe. The European Parliament says empowering Roma, particularly Roma women, to become democratic leaders and participants in creating a more comprehensive European project is vital.
