Istanbul mayors Ankara, Bursa, Balıkesir, Nigde and Duzce recently resigned from their positions as a result of Erdogan's demands, which said the issue was part of preparations for the elections scheduled for March 2019.
The opposition has sharply criticised Erdogan and the AKP, where he had forced the elected chairman to resign as a result of reported threats against targeted mayors, as claimed by Balicsir Edip Ugur municipality chairman.
“We have no information about the mayor's threat, I feel bad about his statements, we are not people who could leave him alone if threats to” were to occur, Erdogan said of the Ugur statement./Periscopi/
