The 1997 Student Movement, led by Bujar Dugolli, Muhamet Mavrej, Driton Lajci and Albin Kurti, supported and by Pristina University's historic Rector Ejup Statovci, and by several professors, had ended the peaceful policy of the Albanian people towards the Serbian regime.

This movement is estimated to have sensationalised the international opinion that the KLA originated with the lyrical people of Kosovo.
On October 1st 1997, thousands of students, but even numerous high school students and citizens, had protested in Pristina to seek the release of UP's facilities from the Serbian regime, which had expelled Albanian students from their university facilities.
