Secretary - General NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, has recently declared a possible danger to NATO member states to North Korean ballistic missiles.
Europe is under the range of North Korean nuclear weapons. NATO countries are currently in danger,” Stoltenberg said in an interview for the Japanese press. Stoltenberg, however, assured that the Alliance aims to protect its members from ballistic missiles.
“NATO has the ability and determination to counter in case of danger,” said the Secretary General.
Stoltenberg noted the need to exert pressure on North Korea, including the strict implementation of economic sanctions.
According to him, Japanese experts will be sent to NATO's cyber security centre in Tallinn. Stoltenberg started his visit to the Japanese state today. Tensions on the Korean Peninsula have escalated significantly after the activism of the North Korean nuclear programme and the United States military maneuvers with those of South Korea.
Two North Korean nuclear missiles were tested in July this year, and two others considered tested in the months of August and September, where the latter affected Japanese territory. A successful test of the most powerful hydrogen bomb was announced on 3 September by the North Korean government.
