A polygamous, the Mormon community in Utah is facing what is labeled a <x0 genetic disaster”, reports the “The Independent”, the Periscope broadcast.

But in a community like FLDS where most people are polygamous and most are connected the possibility of inheriting two wrong genes is much higher. Researchers estimate that thousands of people living in Short Creek currently carry the gene.

Besimi Bistline, a former resident of Short Creek, told the BBC that five of her cousins have this disease. All five are physically and mentally disabled, and only one can walk. They all live by feeding through food pipes and require intensive care.

According to former community member Isaac Wyler, the residents of Short Creek are stewards devoted to those affected by this disease mainly because of their religious faith. /Periscopi/
