Back Home: Sunny Hill Festival has turned into Albania's largest diaspora restoration

Every summer, Festival “Sunny Hill” turns Pristina into a gravitational epidex for the Albanian diaspora. Numerous families who already have their lives in Switzerland, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States of America and beyond return home for the festival ʹ and bring with them their parents, children and friends.
This coming is as much a return home as a music party. Festival followers stay longer, often extending their stay for more than two weeks, thus filling hotels, rented places, and spending in restaurants, shops and other services. For many families, the festival has returned to the calendar's leading point, as the week will be at home.
This connection is also in its own DNA festival. The festival was founded by renowned pop-artist Doual Lipa, who comes from Kosovo, and her father, Dukagjin Lipa. The festival, held in Pristina, brings visitors from more than 60 countries around the world.
The arrival of the diaspora also brings economic impact. Research into the festival's impact says it brings about 22m euros in each edition, as foreign visitors spend on tickets, accommodation, food and other daily expenses, sending in the amount of investment about 50m euros when the entire family's expenses are calculated, Telegrafi reports, broadcast Periscope.
The festival's “Week is the week when everyone comes home”, says festival co-founder Dukagjin Lipa. “We see family members meeting once a year, and it happens during the festival, even in the festival crowd, listening to every language in the countries from which our diaspora comes. We do the festival every year, even for this reason, that regardless of where you live, you will each have a reason to return to Kosovo”.
Three-day regular tickets and VIP tickets are now on sale, early reservations are recommended for the diaspora and international visitors.
