US imposes new sanctions on Iran following ship attacks

US President Donald Trump's administration imposed new sanctions on Tehran on Friday following Iranian attacks on commercial ships on the Hormuz Strait earlier this week.
Sanctions are the newest measures in a series of revenge actions by the White House for these attacks. They come at a time when the US administration is aiming to increase pressure on the Iranian regime, as diplomatic efforts are mired.
The United States earlier this week carried out bombings on Iranian targets and abolished a license that allowed Iran to sell oil without sanctions, CNN television reports.
On Friday, President Trump again declared that the US Memorandum of Understanding has ended, but added that talks with Tehran will continue.
In view of the new sanctions is Ali Ansar, of whom the Treasury Department said that “observed a vast global network of assets in behalf of Iran's leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, and the rest of the regime's elite”.
The new sanctions also hit “Iranian key exchange houses that circulate billions of dollars annually on behalf of Iranian sanctioned banks”, the report said.
