Berlin Joins Paris's Nuclear Exercise

Germany and France have given a strong signal for deepening co-operation in the field of defence and security, following the joint meeting of the Security and Defence Council held in Kiln.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced that Germany will participate for the first time in a French Armed Forces nuclear exercise, starting this year.
Germany and France are deepening their co-operation in defence. We are strengthening European prevention. Starting this year, we will participate in nuclear exercises with the French Armed Forces”, Merz said.
The meeting between the two leaders took place at the Norvenitch air base, near Kaln, where Merz and French President Emmanuel Macron reaffirmed the commitment to a stronger Franco-German partnership in the security field.
This development comes just a month after the failure of the SCAF European fighter aircraft project, which was blocked due to industrial disputes between Airbus and Dassalul companies, however, Paris and Berlin have decided to continue co-operation by focusing on new and more concrete projects.
In the joint statement, the two leaders named the Security and Defence Council meeting as the first operational “step towards a new phase of strategic co-operation.
President Macron stressed that both countries have learned lessons from the failure of this project and that success of future initiatives requires close co-operation between politics and the defence industry.
Meanwhile, to show the proximity between the two leaders, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz published on social networks several photos of the meeting with Macro.
