Stand by Prattipati: Kosovo to act quickly for long-term energy partnership with America

Charged at the US Embassy in Kosovo, Annu Prattipati, in an editorial on the road to energy security and long-term partnership with America, has written that our country is not achieving increased energy supply requirements.

Prattipati has clearly indicated that Kosovo would have to join American natural gas projects planned across the Balkans because this would constitute another link to the growing economic partnership between the US and Kosovo.

Therefore, cut in her statement, the American diplomat, sent the message that Kosovo must act quickly to realise this partnership because building the necessary infrastructure will take time.

And finally, Prattipati stressed that our country faces an important strategic choice, because President Donalt Trump's administration, the top priority, is to reduce Europe's dependence on Russian energy.

We encourage Kosovo to enter into long-term energy partnership with America through the GNL to ensure its energy future. Together, we can strengthen energy security and increase our economies side by side. ”

Here you can read Prattipati's full attitude:

Kosovo is failing to meet growing energy supply requirements. According to Kosovo Customs data, in the past four years, Kosovo has spent 735m euros on importing electricity from neighbouring countries, marking increases from 142m euros in 2024 to 259m euros in 2025. In the foreseeable future, as prices and energy demands continue to rise, Kosovo will increasingly depend on its neighbours.

To address these structural challenges, Kosovo would have to join American natural gas projects planned across the Balkans. These projects can provide American energy sources for Kosovo. The liquid American natural gas (GNL) would enable increased variety in energy supply, complement Kosovo's internal energy resources, and constitute another link in the emerging economic partnership between the US and Kosovo.

The US Department of Energy's Special Envoy for Energy Integration, Mr. Joshua Volz, recently explained: Kosovo's „Energy System urgently needs modernisation and presents excellent opportunities for American industry and technology... and the Energy Department will be willing to help facilitate co-operation between the American industry and industrial partners in Kosovo”.

In today's world, energy security is national security, and the diversity of energy resources through natural gas is essential to achieving a secure future. Natural gas power plants provide the capacity to better meet demand and stabilize prices during peak periods. Enhancing domestic electricity production beyond the country's demand would improve energy independence and protect consumers from unexpected price movements.

Kosovo must act quickly to realise this partnership because building the necessary infrastructure will take time. US GNL exports are expected to double by 2030 and will flow through regional projects such as Gaz's Vertical Corridor and Croatia's floating natural gas terminal. Kosovo could also be linked to the pipeline being built to connect the GNL terminal in Alexandropolis in Greece with Skopje in northern Macedonia.

Connection to an already planned gas pipeline project would cut the deadline and cut spending. Also, the United States government has funding mechanisms available to build natural gas infrastructure. Kosovo can work with regional partners to secure long-term contracts and economies at more competitive prices. The possibility of joining these projects is closing. The delay in this decision risks that US GNL supplies pledge elsewhere, and that could leave Kosovo alone in the Western Balkans without access to the US GNL. History cannot stand in the way of decisions that will benefit the people of Kosovo today and in the future.

Kosovo now faces an important strategic choice. President Trump's top priority administration has to reduce Europe's dependence on Russian energy. We encourage Kosovo to enter into long-term energy partnership with America through the GNL to ensure its energy future. Together, we can strengthen energy security and increase our economies side by side.
