Prisoners at the Smrekonica Correcting Centre exercise voting rights, 65 eligible voters

The Smrekonica Correcting Centre has launched the voting process for those deprived of freedom enjoying the constitutional right to vote.
Electoral Commission mobile teams have reached the centre in time, enabling the process to develop according to advance planning.
The Director of the Correcting Centre in Smreconica, Avni Miftar, has indicated that the institution he heads has a legal and constitutional obligation to enable prisoners to exercise voting rights.
The Electoral Commission's mobile teams have come on time. We as a corrective institution are bound to grant each prisoner this right to vote, which is guaranteed by the Constitution. At this center right now we have 65 prisoners who have a right to vote”, Miftar said.
He stressed that preparations for the election process have been made in co-ordination with the General Directorate, the Operational Centre and the Election Commission's mobile teams, ensuring the management of the process.
The voting process in the correctional institutions aims to guarantee to those who enjoy the right to vote in democratic processes, in accordance with Kosovo's legislation and Constitution. /Periscopi
