First post-war elections were held on October 28, 2000, the number of voters in Kosovo was 900 thousand

The first votes in Kosovo released by Serbia were held on October 28th 2000.

They were not for the national level, they were for the bar.

The number of voters was around 900 thousand, whose overwhelming majority of them were Albanians.

Serbs had refused to participate in these elections, thus forcing them to follow orders coming from Belgrade.

To vote on them, a registration process had been conducted in advance, which had lasted until the end of October of this year.

Albanians considered these elections a major step towards their dream of independence from Serbia, following the release of a year ago.

All 20 parties that were registered to participate in these votes, with about 5 thousand and 500 candidates, were pro-independence for Kosovo.

The race took place between Ibrahim Rugova's LDK, Hashim Thaci's PDK and Ramush Haradinaj's AAK.

The first party had mostly won seats in the 30 municipal municipalities for which it was voted.

This election was organised by the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSBE), which was part of the UN mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) that ruled with the country from June 1999 to the declaration of independence in 2008.

The votes at 1 000, 464 centres were monitored by about 5 thousand and 500 international and local overseers. /Kosovo priss
