Montenegro to continue engagement in NATO mission in Kosovo, warns modernisation of military

Montenegro will continue to contribute to NATO's mission in Kosovo (KFOR), as well as to the Alliance's other commitments in the region and beyond, the Defence Ministry announced on the occasion of marking the country's ninth anniversary of NATO membership.
According to the announcement, Podgorica will continue to send soldiers into the framework of the KFOR mission in Kosovo, while engagement will continue even in NATO war groups deployed in Latvia and Bulgaria, as well as in the Alliance's maritime operations in the Mediterranean Sea.
The Defence Ministry stressed that Montenegro will continue to testify with concrete results that NATO has a reliable partner, responsible ally and significant stability factors in the Western Balkans in this state.
When Montenegro is a step closer to implementing its strategic goal, membership in the European Union, we reaffirm our commitment to the values we share with allies”, it is said in the ministry's response, referring to the recent Western Balkans Summit held in Tivat.
The ministry recalled that on June 5, 2017, Montenegro became 29th member NATO, achieving one of the top foreign policy priorities of the state.
“With Alliance membership, Montenegro took its place in the collective security system, where equally it shares in decision-making to preserve peace, stability and international judicial order”, the statement said.
Montenegrin authorities also announced that they will continue modernising the defence capacities and equipment of the Montenegrin Army under NATO standards, investing in personnel training, institutional development and strengthening capacity to face contemporary security challenges, writes Pobjeda, broadcast Periscope.
