Government in Lithuania taken over, prime minister resigns after 10 months in power

Lithuania's prime minister, Inga Ruginen, resigned on Tuesday, 23 June, bringing her government's collapse after only 10 months in power.
Its resignation comes a few months after a similar political crisis in Latvia, where the government faced problems due to tensions created by Russian fears. In Lithuania, the crisis was triggered by the stances of the far-right party that was part of the government, prompting Social Democrats to seek a new political majority.
Lithuania's president, Gitanas Nausda, is expected to propose Social Democrat Party leader Mindaugas Sincueviciciiu, as the candidate for prime minister in the Lithuanian parliament.
If parliament approves the appointment, the president will officially appoint him prime minister and give him the task of forming the new government.
Meanwhile, the current government led by Ruginen will continue to remain in office until the new cabinet is established.
