EU Shows Why First Time Won't Send Monitor Mission to Kosovo Elections

The European Union's office in Kosovo has indicated that it will not send Election Monitoring Mission or expert missions for the June 7th elections in Kosovo, due to short-term until their stay.
The EU in an answer says that, despite that, a <x0) diplomatic survey” will be organised, which will consist of EU representatives, member states and partners with the same opinion in Kosovo.
“Unfortunately, due to short time before the new round of general elections, we will not be able to send a Election Monitoring Mission or an Election Experts Mission”, the EU News Office's response to the news.net, broadcasts Periscope.
According to the EU, the goal of diplomatic monitoring is to facilitate international presence during election day, in close co-ordination with Kosovo institutions responsible for the election process.
The importance of previous EU recommendations for improving the election process, including those from recent years' local and parliamentary elections, is also highlighted, which provide guidelines for developing a more comprehensive and transparent process.
The EU's recently delivered <x0 recommendations for local elections and early parliamentary elections at the end of 2025, as well as EOM recommendations for regular elections held in February 2025, provide helpful guidelines on how to improve the development of elections, also guarantee a comprehensive process of”, said in their response.
Similarly, the EU underlines the importance of the Central Election Commission with balanced representation of all political forces as the key element for ensuring fair and reliable elections.
We remember that Presidential Agent Albulen Haxhiu had sent letters to European Parliament President Roberta Metsola and European Union Chief diplomat Kaya Kallas on 5 May to send the European Union's Election Monitor for the June 7th 2026 elections.
“Presidents Haxhiu for the European Union has been made in the spirit of transparency, credibility and integrity of the election process. This remains the institutional approach of the Republic of Kosovo: free, fair, comprehensive and widely observed elections by international partners”, the report said.
The President's Office reportedly welcomes the presence of the EU Office in Kosovo, member states, international partners and all organizations accredited for monitoring elections, and that the Republic of Kosovo has full interest for the June 7th process to develop in order, transparency and in line with democratic standards.
Unlike the Kosovo President's office, the invitation to the European Union for international election monitoring has not been ignored.
So the presidency reacted after reports that Haxhiu's request for sending teams was ignored by the EU.
The presidency stated that they have accepted official answers from the European Union, in which it is stressed that due to short time until holding new parliamentary elections, it is not possible to send an Election Monitoring Mission or an Election Experts' Mission.
“In the same answer, the EU has made it clear that it is looking into and coordinating an international presence on election day through the EU Office in Kosovo, EU member states and other partners present in the country”.
According to the Presidency, presenting this issue as <x0/indirection” of the U.d request. The president is incorrect and does not reflect the content of official communication between institutions.
Early elections will be held on 07.06.2026, as the Parliament failed to elect the country's president within the deadline set by the Constitutional Court.
