The Kosovo Journalists' Association is deeply concerned by today's discussion of the Independent Media Commission, where Deputy Mayor Drita Morina has proposed that the next meeting discuss the closure of the Dbat Plus TV show Dukajini. The AGK praises this declaration as unacceptable, irresponsible and as a frontal attack on media freedom and expression in Kosovo. Today's discussion is a continuation of uncondemned verdicts against the media in recent days. The AGK now re-exemplifies that it is not in the competence of the KPM to condemn media and journalists because of the debate and guest statements.
"Unprecedented decisions with fines from the new KPM composition confirm the alarm raised by AGK and civil society that the KPM has become fully operational of Vetevendosje and Government policies aimed at instigating media and journalists. Freedom of the media and expression is a guaranteed right in Kosovo, while media pluralism is a value that no KPM decision can undo. ", said away in reaction.
The AGK calls on KPM to give up the practice of punishing the media immediately and carry out its work within its competencies. /Periscope
