Over 80 percent of registered voters voted on diplomatic representation

Central Election Commission spokesman (KQZ) Valmir Elezi has indicated that the voting process in most of the Kosovo Republic's diplomatic representatives has ended successfully, while voter turnout from the diaspora has reached over 80 per cent.

At a media conference, Elez announced that by the time the conference was held, the vote in 26 Kosovo diplomatic representations, distributed in 16 different states, reports EO, broadcast Periscope.

The “reports that by this time the vote has ended in 26 diplomatic representations of the Republic of Kosovo, which are located in 16 countries such as Turkey, Germany, Switzerland, France, Belgium, Norway, Austria, Sweden, Slovenia, Denmark, Italy, Croatia, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Hungary and the United Kingdom. According to local time in Kosovo, at 1:15 the vote will be completed in four other diplomatic representations, located in the United States of America and Canada. After the outcome of the vote even in these two countries, we will have a written statement”, Elez said.

He stressed that throughout the day the CEC has maintained continued communication with diplomatic missions to ensure the prosperity of the election process.

“During today the CEC has been in constant contact with diplomatic representatives, and the voter service officials have been offered the instructions needed for holding voting under law and procedures. In general, due to the continued communication we have had with these diplomatic representations, the voting process has been conducted without any obstacle”, he said.

On behalf of the institution, Elez thanked diplomatic personnel and commissioners committed to organising the vote abroad.

“On behalf of the CEC, we thank the mission chiefs, diplomatic mission staff and members of decision-making councils for their commitment during today's”, the CEC spokesman said.

Presenting preliminary data on participation, Elez indicated that voters' interest has been high.

“According to data from 26 diplomatic representatives where the vote has been closed, but also from data until 1: 00 p.m. from the US and Canada vote, out of 27.724 registered voters have voted 80.85 per cent, or 22.414 voters. Of course, after the voting process ends in four diplomatic representations located in the US and Canada, we will have up-to-date data on the overall voter turnout under these 30 diplomatic representatives”, he said.

Elez also explained that the ballots thrown at diplomatic representations will not be counted abroad, but will be transported to Kosovo.

For the end, according to procedures, these ballots will not be counted on diplomatic representations, but during the coming days they will be brought to Kosovo and their count will take place at the Counting and Results Centre, according to the CEC's preliminary procedures”, he stressed.

At the conclusion of the conference, the CEC spokesman announced that after the closure of the vote in North America, an official announcement will be published, while the voting process in Kosovo will take place Sunday.

I thank you very much for attending this conference and inform you that sometime after 1:15 we will have a written announcement to confirm the closure of the vote in the US and Canada diplomatic representatives. Meanwhile, during tomorrow, Sunday, the voting process will take place in the Republic of Kosovo.
