UN welcomes ceasefire between Russia, Ukraine

The United Nations organisation has welcomed the announcement of a three-day ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, as well as the agreement on the exchange of prisoners of war.
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said he welcomes the planned ceasefire from 9 May to 11 May and the large-scale exchange of prisoners between the two countries.
He also praised the United States' efforts to facilitate the deal.
Guterres reiterated the call for an immediate, complete and lasting ceasefire, describing it as the first step towards a fair and long-term peace in line with the UN Charter and international law.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump announced on Friday on his Social Truth platform that Moscow and Kiev have agreed to the three-day ceasefire and to an exchange of 1,000 to 1,000 prisoners.
Trump expressed optimism that this agreement could mark the beginning of the end of the conflict, which he described as the greatest war since World War II. /Periscope
