Vuciq: Will fight against Kosovo's NATO membership

American congressionalwoman Keith Self, along with two other colleagues, Ritchie Torres and Mike Lawler, have presented a resolution at the U.S. House of Representatives to express strong support for Kosovo's NATO integration.

But this initiative is pledging that Serbia's president, Allexander Vuciq, will fight it.

We'll soon have important exercises with them (NATO) We're talking to them, hopefully not. We will fight for something like that not to happen. Remember there are four NATO members, as are five EU members, who have not recognised Kosovo. I don't see how this can pass easily, but wait and see”, Vuciq told reporters, Serbian news agency “reported.Tanjug“, Transmitting Clankosova.tv.

On Resolution Proposed by American congressers, some of the reasons Kosovo deserves NATO membership are mentioned.

Moreover, as opposing forces continue to destabilise the region, Kosovo's addition to the NATO alliance would serve as a necessary counterweight to discourage such hostile efforts and prevent another global catastrophe in the Balkans”, the resolution said.

Four NATO member states -- Greece, Romania, Slovakia and Spain -- have not yet recognised Kosovo as a state.

The resolution calls on these four allies to reconsider their positions, stressing that Kosovo's broader recognition is essential to unblock its path towards NATO integration and close a strategic gap in Southeast Europe that opponents seek to exploit.

Kosovo has demonstrated a clear commitment to regional stability and strategic approach with NATO countries, but its progress towards membership in the alliance is hampered by the lack of recognition by a small number of allies”, Congresswoman Self said.

He has added that Kosovo's addition to the alliance is essential to opposing the growing influence of opponents in Europe.

The United States must encourage Greece, Romania, Slovakia and Spain to reconsider their positions and ensure that Kosovo has a reliable and accessible path towards membership”, Self has said.

The resolution says Kosovo's addition to the NATO alliance is essential to protecting the interests of national security in Southeast Europe.
