Kallas: We had Kurt's consent and Vuchy's approval for a meeting within dialogue

The European Union's top representative for Foreign Policy and Security, Kaya Kallas, confirmed that frequent election cycles in Kosovo are the main reason why, long ago, there has been no new round of dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade, at the level of leaders.
She told reporters that there is readiness both from Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, as well as from Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, for a meeting within the dialogue, but that the announcement of early elections in Kosovo has again postponed the process.
“We, in fact, had planned dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina ʹ political dialogue at high level. We had the consent of both leaders from Kosovo and Serbia é but now elections in Kosovo are approaching again, which of course postpones the” process, Kallas said.
“I, however, am working separately with both sides so that we can continue with the implementation of agreements that are already in force”, she added.
The leaders of Kosovo and Serbia have last met under the dialogue for normalising relations in September 2023.
Kallas took over the post of EU high representative in December 2024, and so far there has been no chance of being involved in any round of talks.
Today, it welcomes a meeting of the foreign ministers of European Union member states and their counterparts from the Western Balkans.
Talks between 27 European diplomatic chiefs and six foreign ministers of the countries of the region are expected to serve as entry for a further debate on the situation in the region, which will be held just today, but only at the level of EU ministers.
Preparations of the EU-Western Balkans summit, to be held in June in Tivat in Montenegro, are expected to be discussed at the meeting.
According to European diplomats, the main focus will be: strengthening co-operation between the EU and the region, increasing sustainability of external influences, linking with EU foreign policy, and improving relations between countries of the region.
