This was not expected by Salah, issued shocking statements on the eve of leaving"Anfield"

Michael Owen commented on Mohammed Salah's recent statements, saying the Egyptian star's words fell on Liverpool as “Handgrad”. Salah has criticised Arne Slot and the current game style of “Reds”, on the eve of his departure from “Anfield”.

After nine memorable years in Liverpool, during which he won two titles of Premier League, a Champions League, four “Golden Shoes” and three awards like PFA's Player of the Year, Salah is preparing to bid farewell to the club.

The 33-year-old attacker is expected to leave this summer as a free player, as it is set to have his contract terminated 12 months before the expiration. It is being linked to clubs from Europe, the MLS and Saudi Arabia.

Salah will depart as a modern legend of Liverpool, with over 250 goals scored for the club. However, his last season has been difficult. After sitting on the bench late in 2025, the Egyptian accused the club and technical staff of leaving him alone in the face of criticism.

Then Salah published a statement on social networks, where he wrote:

I've seen this club go from suspicious to believer and from believers to champions. It took a lot of work, and I always did everything I could to help the club get there. Nothing makes me more proud than that.

Our fall into another loss this season was very painful and it's not what our fans deserve. I want to see Liverpool return to the strike squad éavy metal, which is feared by opponents, and a team that wins trophies. ”

Many responded immediately, criticising Salah for speaking publicly while still part of the club. However, his frustration is seen as understandable, as Liverpool has dropped significantly from the level of a champion team, and this season is in fifth place, despite large spending in the 2025 summer merkato.

Asked whether Salah's recent explosion is understandable or unnecessary, Liverpool's former assailant, Michael Owen, told GOAL:

“Both. Is he understanding? Yeah. Do I agree with what he said? Yeah. But would I? No.

That's the point. I don't think it was wise to say, even though he might be right. Of course Liverpool fans want to see better football. Of course, they want better results. And they certainly don't want a team that wins one fight and loses another.

Nothing he said was wrong. The problem was he said it publicly. ”

Owen pointed out that Salah's common silence makes his statements even more powerful.

The problem with Mo Salah is that he usually speaks very rarely. But when you speak, you drop hand grenades. If he spoke all the time, it would probably not be such a shock. But everything he says becomes great news. And when there's something negative about the club or the coach or anybody else, then the situation explodes immediately.

So I agree with everything he said, but I don't agree he said it publicly, because who's this helping? Nobody benefits. ”

Another legend of Liverpool, Jamie Carragher, has called Salah <x0-edist” and has acknowledged that it is not surprising that the Egyptian King “” has issued another “ ” on the eve of leaving “Anfield”.

His behavior has been compared to that of Cristiano Ronaldo, when Portuguese forced an early departure from Manchester United in 2022.

Owen shares the same opinion that such statements serve no one, since they open unnecessary public debates. However, he acknowledges that Salah has raised some valid issues and that everyone at Liverpool knows that standards should rise significantly in the 2026/27 season.
