European Union Growth Plan Kos: We will allocate about 200m euros to Albania and Montenegro

It is about the 200m-euro fund, which the union will distribute the following days for Albania and Montenegro -- the two countries that lead the membership process and target membership in the European Union within this decade.

The news was disclosed by EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos, prior to the meeting in Brussels between the foreign ministers of the 27 union member states and their counterparts in the six countries of the region.

“I have a very clear message: there is a place for all Western Balkan states in the European Union. Enlargement is a priority for the European Union and if our candidates achieve results, then we too must fulfill our duties. In the growth plan, implementation is doing well and the next few days will allocate about 200m euros to Montenegro and Albania”, Cos said.

The European Union's plan for the Western Balkans, at the value of 6 billion euros, aims at the region's economic growth, accelerating needed reforms and conducting investments, which can advance the process of expanding the union with the six countries in the region.

Currently, the European Commission has frozen funds for Serbia due to controversial laws on justice. Speaking from Brussels, Commissioner Kos said the state has not received European funds since passing laws on justice. / TCH
