EU expects Kosovo after elections to have strong majority, compromise capable government

Chief of the European Union Office in Kosovo Chief Eva Palatova has called for quick formation of institutions after the June 7th elections, stressing the need for political compromise among parties to elect the country's president.

Within the framework of the European Day footnote activities, Palatova said the European Union expects Kosovo to establish a stable and powerful parliamentary government in order to continue implementing reforms within the European agenda.

“We need to see a quick formation of institutions, with a government having strong majority in the assembly, which has the ability to generate healthy interparty compromises to elect the president and proceed with reforms”, she said.

According to her, such institutional stability is important not only for the domestic functioning of the country but also for advancing integration processes towards the European Union.

Palatova also stressed Kosovo's multiethnic character, naming it an important value for EU member states, Telegrafi reports, the Periscope broadcast.

The third “, the multiethnic character of Kosovo, is of great value to all our member states. All of our capitals observe its preservation, constructive engagement with all majority communities, so that all Kosovars, regardless of ethnic affiliation, feel they have a home and perspective here”, she said.

Its statements come at a time when the political scene in Kosovo is entering the final phase of the election campaign for the June 7th elections, while the issue of creating parliamentary majority and electing the president is considered one of the main political challenges behind the election process.
