Ebola is out of control in Congo, hundreds infected, and dozens of victims of the deadly virus

The alert for the spread of the deadly Ebola virus is growing in the Democratic Republic of Congo, while health authorities report a rapid increase in suspected cases and victims.
According to the Health Ministry, 671 suspected cases have been recorded so far and 160 victims believed to have lost their lives as a result of the dangerous virus.
Authorities confirmed that 64 infections and six deaths have been verified through laboratory tests as the Ebola cases. Meanwhile, the World Health Organization warned that real figures may be much higher, as not all cases are reported on time.
The situation has raised concerns in neighbouring countries as well. In Uganda, the Health Ministry announced that only two cases related to citizens from Congo have been identified. One of the patients has passed away, while the other resulted negative after treatment and continues to be kept under medical monitoring.
According to the African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the actual explosion began about two months ago in the province of Ituri, northeast of the country, near the border with Uganda and South Sudan. This is considered Ebola's 17th explosion in the Democratic Republic of Congo since 1976.
Experts stress that the current epidemic relates to the rare Budibugyo version, for which no specific vaccines or treatments still exist, making the situation even more alarming.
The Ebola virus, known for its high mortality rate and rapid spread through body fluid contact or infected persons, remains one of the most serious health threats on the African continent. It is thought that the 2014-2015 epidemic in West Africa caused more than 11,000 casualties.
